Airbnb Changeovers: How Hosts Keep a Five-Star Cleanliness Rating
29 July 2026 · 4 min read
Cleanliness is the category guests mark hardest, and a single three-star review can take months of perfect stays to recover from. The properties that hold five stars all run the same kind of repeatable changeover routine.
Start with a fixed order: strip and remake beds first so linen has time to settle, then bathrooms, then kitchen, then floors last. Working in the same order each time means nothing gets skipped when the turnaround is tight.
Guests notice hair in the shower, smudged glass, dusty skirting and the inside of the microwave far more than they notice a perfectly folded towel. Those four things are worth building into a final walkthrough.
Photograph the finished property after every clean. It resolves damage disputes, gives you a record if a guest claims the property was dirty, and keeps your listing photos accurate.
Finally, keep a stocked consumables box on site. Running out of toilet roll or dishwasher tablets mid-stay is one of the most common reasons an otherwise five-star review drops a point.
